The power of pink is strong this October, an important month devoted to raising awareness, funds and medical research for breast cancer. As one of the most prevalent cancers out there, with 1 in 8 women diagnosed with the disease in their lifetime, there is still so much to learn and much work to be done to beat it.

At Nyrelle, we're conscious beyond our craft and that means doing whatever we can to fight for causes we care deeply about. So, in honour of breast cancer awareness month, we're spotlighting our fines in 9K or 18K Fairtrade rose gold and giving 10% of the profits to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, an NGO dedicated to advancing life-saving research to end breast cancer.

But beyond supporting this cause that's near and dear to our hearts, we simply can't get enough of rose gold jewellery's pretty in pink appeal, a romantic and empowering metal that's sure to shake up any look.

Here are 4 reasons to fall in love with rose gold and go pink this month:

  1. It fairs just as well in quality as yellow or white gold

If you've ever had doubts about rose gold, you've probably questioned whether it wavers in purity compared to other metals. Rose gold gets its soft pink hue by combining silver and copper with pure yellow gold. The higher the copper content, the deeper and redder the rose tone; the higher the yellow gold or silver content, the peachier and lighter the rose tone.

However, this blend of metals doesn't necessarily mean it loses out in quality or purity: if you're buying 9K or 18K rose gold, the karat refers to the purity of the gold ratio. For example, an 18K rose gold piece would contain 75% pure gold, or 18 parts gold and 6 parts other metal alloys. In other words, rose gold fairs just as well as white and yellow gold; it simply contains a different ratio of metals to give it its desired colour.

  2. It's a sophisticated alternative

When it comes to fine jewellery nothing beats the fresh, modern appeal of white gold or the classic, opulent feel of yellow gold. But there's something to be said about rose gold: while it tends to take on a trendy, ultra feminine sensibility that not everyone resonates with, we'd argue that it offers a sense of understated style that other more popular metals can't. It lives in the goldilocks zone: it's romantic, elegant and never over-the-top or too casual, a happy medium for day wear or even important occasions.

  3. It's extremely versatile

Rose gold's soft pink colour pairs well with other metals; it won't clash with your favourite yellow gold, white gold or silver jewellery, and it will simply add a point of difference to your jewellery stack game. On top of that, it offers great contrasts when set with different coloured gemstones, from brilliant blue topaz, to lime green peridot and deep purple amethyst.

  4. It's highly durable

Pure gold is a super soft metal; on its own (i.e. 24K gold) it's incredibly easy to bend, dent and scratch. So, aside from altering the colour of jewellery, copper, silver and other metal alloys added to yellow gold play a key role in making them strong and resilient. This is especially true for rose gold thanks to its copper component – a super durable metal often used in building construction and transportation.

  5. It adds understated femininity to your looks

Rose gold jewellery looks great with a pared down wardrobe of warm neutrals like sand beige, dusty pink, terracotta and olive green, or more chic with metallic items like a gold top, silver shoes, or copper accessories. But it can also add a touch of understated femininity to minimalist looks in white or black, or a casual jeans and tee look, without being too girlish. Just avoid wearing it with pink or purple, or you'll end up looking like a trendy Pinterest moodboard!
